We are pleased to announce that Jose G. Rivera, Esq. will join Scott Legal P.C. as a full-time associate in our New York office on November 15, 2016. Mr. Rivera will focus primarily on business law and investor visas.
Mr. Rivera earned his juris doctorate from New York Law School and his undergraduate degree in History from the New School. Mr. Rivera was on the Dean’s List repeatedly during his undergraduate tenure.
During law school, Mr. Rivera worked as a research assistant for Professors Richard Chused and Gregory Boyd, conducting research and analysis in various fields of law. As an intern at Colon & Peguero, LLP, Mr. Rivera researched and drafted legal memoranda during the preliminary stages of litigation. Additionally, Mr. Rivera served on the executive committee of the Affiliated Lawyers of the Americas (“ALTA”), a non-profit trade association focused on promoting the growth and expansion of business opportunities and trade relations throughout the Americas and Caribbean.
Prior to joining Scott Legal, Mr. Rivera worked as an associate at a New York based boutique law firm handling a wide array of civil litigation cases. In this capacity Mr. Rivera focused his practice in commercial litigation, representing individuals, international and domestic corporations, LLCs and partnerships in a wide spectrum of complex business disputes. Mr. Rivera has prepared and argued motions before the Commercial Division of the New York Supreme Court, the Appellate Divisions of the First and Second Departments, and the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. Finally, Mr. Rivera has represented indigent tenants in nonpayment and holdover proceedings in New York Housing Courts in Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn and the Bronx.
Mr. Rivera is admitted to practice law in New York and the Southern District of New York and is fluent in Spanish.
