On Wednesday, a federal judge has denied a blanket request to release families in ICE custody. The initial request urged the release of families in detention given the confined setting and potential spread of the coronavirus.
Despite raising the issue that ICE has failed to provide sanitation services, masks, or proper social distancing procedures, the judge ruled hat other options need to be considered first before the blanket release of all of the families. The petitioners must demonstrate that no other court order remedy exist before release can be considered. So far, more than 3700 cases of coronavirus have been discovered in ICE custody.
