In 2019 , it has become a policy of the Customs and Border Protection that the CBP port will not adjudicate L-1 visa renewals for Canadian nationals at the border. Has this changed/has there been any updated since the Biden administration?
Unfortunately, no. If you are a Canadian national, you can apply for the initial L-1 status at the border, but to renew your L-1 status, you will have to file an extension of status petition with USCIS. Even though being able to renew the L-1 visa at the border would be a desirable change for many Canadians, we have not heard any updates/planned changes on this policy from the new administration.
