The United States Citizenship and Immigration Service, “USCIS” reported earlier this year that they will not be requiring passport photos for N-600 applications which is the similar policy for applicants for Naturalization using USCIS Form N-400.
Naturalization is the process where legal permanent residents apply for U.S. citizenship. We discuss naturalization here. The N-600 is typically used by noncitizens who have acquired U.S. citizenship through a U.S. parent after birth. We discuss how children of U.S. citizens qualify for citizenship after birth here.
The new policy clarifies that N-600 applicants are generally not required to submit paper photographs since USCIS can collect the applicant’s picture and signature at a Biometrics appointment at no additional cost.
However, an application can be considered abandoned where the applicant fails to appear at a Biometrics appointment unless USCIS receives a timely change of address or rescheduling request.
