Congress brought an end to a three-day government shutdown on January 22, 2018 as the Senate agreed to adopt a short-term spending bill to fund government operations without first addressing the fate of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival’s (DACA) young undocumented immigrants. The approved spending bill will fund the government through February 8. A key part of the deal includes a pledge by the Republican majority leader Mitch McConnell to hold a vote on immigration legislation in the coming weeks.  The immigration issues being negotiated include improvements to border security and a legislative solution for DACA recipients. Other immigration initiatives like the EB-5 Immigrant Investors Regional Center Program which expired on the day of the government shutdown, has also been extended without change until February 8.
