The news that a lot of immigration advocates and immigrant investors are waiting for – Congress extends the EB-5 Regional Center Program until September 30, 2016!
The EB-5 investor visa is a green card option for an immigrant entrepreneur that would like to buy or start a business (Direct Investment) or an investor who wants to invest in a job creation project such as the building of a railway (Regional Center).
In its current format, the EB-5 Investor visa requires a minimum investment of $800,000 and can require up to $1,050,000 depending on where the business or project is located. The bill was originally due to lapse on September 30, 2015, but was extended several times over the year through stop-gap measures initiated by Congress. Prior to the expiration of the most recent extension until December 16, 2015, House and Senate leaders extended the bill in its current format until September 30, 2016 as part of the omnibus appropriations bill, along with the other expiring immigration programs which includes R-1 visas for religious workers, waiver program for J-1 medical workers, and the E-verify program.
