The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is the government agency that oversees lawful immigration to the United States. It is a component of the United States Department of Homeland Security, with the mission of administering “the nation’s lawful immigration system, safeguarding its integrity and promise by efficiently and fairly adjudicating requests for immigration benefits while protecting Americans, securing the homeland, and honoring our values.”
Some of the major services that USCIS provides include citizenship and naturalization, family immigration, employment-based immigration, humanitarian immigration, and verification of employment eligibility of newly hired employees (E-Verify).
Foreign nationals may navigate through the USCIS website to find information about temporary and permanent immigration classifications for which they may qualify, download free forms to apply for immigration benefits, and find links to online tools and legal resources. To find out more about potential immigration visa options that can be filed with USCIS, including H-1B, L-1, E-2, or visas for those with extraordinary ability, please contact Scott Legal, P.C.
In March of 2018, USCIS launched a new home page to help users navigate the site more easily. New features include an announcement ribbon featuring important news, links to frequently used tools such as Case Status and Processing Times, an educational panel with interactive content and media, and a larger search box. For more information about the new home page, including a snapshot of the home page that is labeled with all of the new features, please click here.
