The California Attorney General has sued the Trump administration last Thursday seeking to block the recent student visa rule. As Colleges and University announce their course work for next semester, some schools have changed their schedules to all online courses for students due to the COVID pandemic. As a result, ICE and the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) announced that international students whose are taking online only classes will not be granted a student visa, CBP will also not allow these students into the country. The suit, filed in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, argues that California, with more than 184,000 international students, is disproportionately impacted by the order. California officials described students unable to afford travel back to their home countries, frightened by the prospect of attending classes in person during a pandemic and unable to reach consular officials for advice. More information on the result of the lawsuit will be provided as the case advances.
