The TN visa can be an excellent option for nationals of Canada or Mexico who want to work in the United States. To qualify, the applicant must have an offer of employment from a U.S. employer to work in a listed profession, and the applicant must be qualified to work in that profession.
Most TN Professions require that the TN Applicant has a Bachelor’s or Licenciatura degree. If your degree is from a Canadian, U.S., or Mexican educational institution, you can just present the original degree (plus in some cases it may be helpful to also present the transcripts) at your TN interview.
If your degree is not from a U.S., Canadian, or Mexican educational institution, you will need to present a Credentials evaluation of the degree & transcripts and to qualify for the TN, the evaluation should conclude that your degree is equivalent to the required Canadian/Mexican degree.
Please note that there are some categories such as for example the Management Consultant category that don’t require a degree and you could qualify based on your experience, but these categories are usually heavily scrutinized by the officers.
Please see our blog post about TN Categories that don’t require a Bachelor’s degree or higher here.
